SIFMA's Washington, DC Retirement & Savings
Conference - September 16-17th
Over the past year, the crisis in our
credit markets has cause upheaval in the financial
services industry and sent our economy into recession.
IRAs, 401(k)s and other retirement plans have
experienced significant losses.
As Washington considers how
best to regulate the financial sector many
retirement-plan sponsors, advisors, and participants are
wondering what lays ahead.
The Securities Industry and Financial
Markets Association (SIFMA)’s annual Retirement and
Savings Conference, held September 16 and 17 in
Washington keeps this past year’s events in mind as it
brings together officials from the Treasury Department,
the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Labor
Department and industry professionals to address reform
proposals and other issues that affect retirement plans.
The Conference draws retirement
professionals from across the financial-services
industry, including retirement-plan specialists and
executives who market and manage the product or are
responsible for legal and compliance, to focus on
matters such as fee disclosure, Form 5500 annual-report
requirements, target-date funds, investment advice and
retirement-adviser issues.
Attendees will also hear from policymakers and
regulators as to what the future will hold
for retirement policy as reform efforts gain momentum.
Among the guest speakers at the Conference will be Mark
Iwry, senior advisor and deputy assistant secretary for
retirement and health policy from the Treasury
Department, who speak at Thursday morning’s (September
17) Policymaker Perspective session.
In addition, Douglas
Scheidt from the Securities and Exchange Commission, and
Jeffrey Turner from the Employee Benefits Security
Administration will join industry representatives on a
panel to discuss SEC and DOL joint projects aimed at
retirement plans.
